About the J20

Judiciaries worldwide contend with a number of common issues that they can share ideas on in a platform such as the J20. These include the advancements in technology and how they affect the administration of justice, matters pertaining to strengthening judicial independence, the funding of the courts, as well as effective case management and enforcement of judgments. All these matters impact public trust in the Judiciary and the effective delivery of justice. The J20, therefore, convenes to achieve the following objectives:


  • Enhance judicial knowledge on current legal trends;
  • Promote networking opportunities among Judges;
  • Address pressing issues facing the Judiciary today; and
  • Develop actionable recommendations for improved functioning of J20 Judiciaries.

ABOUT G20

The Group of Twenty (G20) nations is an international forum for economic cooperation whose aim is to develop policies and strategies to tackle current and future global challenges.

South Africa assumed the rotating Presidency of the G20 nationals in December 2024, taking over from the Federative Republic of Brazil.

South Africa’s G20 Presidency was launched on 3 December 2024, when President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that South Africa has adopted the theme ‘Solidarity, Equality and Sustainability’ for its G20 Presidency.

Under overarching theme, South Africa’s priorities include, enhancing the execution of the Sustainable Development Goals (SGD) and the Agenda 20263 of the African Union, transformation of global governance as well as economic and trading structures. These are aimed at enhancing the momentum of building a new world order characterised by inclusivity, representativity, justice fairness, and sustainability.

G20 is made up of 13 Engagement Groups. There are Engagement Groups which bring together civil societies, parliamentarians, think tanks, women, youth, labour, businesses and researchers of the G20 countries. These include: Business20 (B20), Civil20 (C20), Labour20 (L20), Parliament20 (P20), Science20 (S20), Start-up20 (SU20), Supreme Audit Institutions20 (SAI20), Think-tank20 (T20), Urban20 (U20), Women20 (W20) and Youth20 (Y20), the Oceans20 (O20) and the Judiciary20 (J20).
